At 6 p.m. on December 24, our Service of Lessons and Carols will follow a pattern of nine Bible readings (lessons) from Genesis to the Gospels, tracing salvation history, interspersed with carols and hymns that reflect on each passage, culminating in the nativity story and a final prayer for the world. The outline typically moves from Creation and the Fall to the Promise of a Messiah, the Annunciation, the Nativity, Shepherds, Wisemen, and then prayers for the Church and world, with readers of different ages participating.
As night falls on Christmas Eve, we tell the story again, lighting candles and welcoming Jesus, the “light of the World”.
