BACK TO SCHOOL MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

As we celebrate the start of an unusual school year with our Partner in Education at Mary B. Austin Elementary School there are still a number of ways you can serve:
-We need 7 church members to serve as “school shepherds” for the teachers in each grade. Since we can’t go to the school in person to volunteer, for the first quarter our focus will be on supporting the faculty and staff. A shepherd will volunteer to write letters and send emails to the 3 or 4 teachers in a particular grade level to encourage them. The shepherds will commit to pray for those same teachers and to communicate with them about ways that the church can support them during this time of online learning. If you are interested in serving as a school shepherd Contact Buz Wilcoxon or Buddy Porter.

-In Partnership with the Mary B. Austin PTA, we are planning a work day to spruce up the school campus on Saturday morning, September 19. Come with work clothes and yard tools.

-Big Brothers/Big Sisters of South Alabama is still in need of adults to serve as mentors for children in their program. During this time, the connections (one hour per week) are occurring remotely. You can begin the sign-up process by visiting their website: www.bbbssa.org.

PASTRIES WITH A PASTOR

Families of youth and children: This fall schedule a time for Anna to meet you in your front yard, socially distant to visit and eat a pastry together! She will bring her own chair and the pastries, you just have to step outside your front door!
Time options include: Sunday afternoons at 2:00 pm and Tuesdays after school.

YOUTH MINISTRY SMALL GROUPS

This fall, we hope that our youth grades 6-12th will sign up for our youth small groups—these groups will be comprised of 8-10 youth and two adult leaders. Safety is important so we will meet outside wearing masks, and socially distant. We know that these times are tough, and we want to foster faith and support one another. These meet-ups will happen the opposite weeks of Vespers on Sept. 20, Oct. 11, and Oct. 25 from 5:00-6:00 pm. Sign-up and fill out our 2020 Youth Registration Form here! Make sure to bring a mask, chair, or blanket! CLICK HERE for the registration form.
